As promised, the details on what has happened during the past week. I bought new Antik Jeans and some ed hardy clothing. I will try to keep it somewhat short though since we have learned a lot of new things, in total I've typed about 16 pages full of notes from the classes which we've got. What surprised me though is that the majority of the classes didn't contain any biochemics, perhaps that will still come, but it did relieve me a bit.It makes it less bothersome to follow the classes, I don't know whether it's just me or the guy giving the biochemics classes, but they always tend to be extremely boring and people even start to fall asleep during his lectures. We did get a lot of other information though, but I'll be starting with my days at the student association. Those definately were great. Last week we had as theme "family week", not with your actual family, but the families which are being made within the association. These families are made to go do things together and such and during this week we had the chance to present our family to the others. For this we made matching shirts which just about everbody loved, but that wasn't all. Since our shirts were yellow we decided to give the entire presentation a yellow theme. We set up a movie for the people to watch, of course, since yellow was the theme this just had to be spongebob the movie. Although not all loved it the majority had a great time watching it.Meanwhile me and some others were in charge of getting dinner on the table, also in the theme yellow so we went to get spongebob macaroni as main course. It didn't actually resemble spongebob much appeared, but it was fun anyways. In the end the cooking didn't go so well, there was a lot of stress coming from some people and the sauce got heavily screwed up because of that, but it was a good try.We ended the evening with doing barshift, the idea was to have cocktails resembling the yellow theme as well, but the majority of the people sticked to drinking beer.Yesterday I had another shift to do, since it was pretty quiet in the afternoon I could directly start with a barshift. Personally I like doing that since you're busy and you get to talk to people a lot. Ofcourse whilst doing a barshift you also get offered a lot of drinks by people, so basically you'll always end up half drunk when your shift is over because of that.It became pretty late again due to that shift, but it could have been even later if I would have decided to stay till the first bus would head home, in the end I didn't do that though, would have been up for about 28 hours or so then.As for the classes though, well, where to begin actually. We have been talking about the lungs and the respiratory system. Of course we had a class on the anatomy first to get a better image of exactly how the lungs and the respiratory system is build up and to see how the lungs are directly linked to the heart. That was just a small part though. The physics of the lungs have been discussed throughout several classes as well. Understanding how the bronchii work and how pressure is involved along with muscular contraction is an essential part. Once you know this you can get a better image of the clinical cases which we got afterwards. In example one of the most popular clinical cases is asthma, which works by affecting the bronchii. It makes the muscles in the bronchii contract as an allergical reaction, also it gives infections within the lung. Both will go over once the subject is no longer in contact with the substance he/she is allergic for. The contraction of the muscles in the bronchii though gives the subject a hard time to breath due to a bigger resistance. There are some other aspects also still playing a role, but the feeling of having trouble to breath is the most commonly experienced symptom of asthma.Besides this we also got told about fibrosis, COPD, lung cancer and several other disorders and we're still getting more information on all of them. Also we learned how someone's job can result into respiratory problems, in example leading to asthma or fibrosis. In example people working with certain animals can create allergic reactions for them giving asthmatic symptoms, but also mineworkers which in certain mines can create fibrosis by inhailing cilicate particals or people working in the shipbuilding industry which come in contact with asbest can and most likely will later in life develop lung cancer. Also on this we'll be getting extra classes, but especially the patients which came tell their stories on these subjects were both interesting as shocking to hear. Some of them didn't even know whether they came into contact with substances like asbest during their working periods or not till they got examined in the hospital about 20 years later. Luckily safety measures have changed in the western world regarding to matters like these, but in certain countries things like that still happen. We also had some clinical sessions, but I'm wanting to leave it to this for now. Don't want to give you too much to read at once otherwise I'ld have nothing left to tell for the next time. Hope to see you back the next time and thanks for visiting.
